The Act authorizes the President to requisition property, force industry to expand production and the supply of basic resources, impose wage and price controls, settle labor disputes, control consumer and real estate credit, establish contractual priorities, and allocate raw materials towards national defense. Here are Trump's actual words...
Trump orders GM with DPA...
Trump's actual words...
“As usual with ‘this’ General Motors, things just never seem to work out,” the president wrote. “They said they were going to give us 40,000 much needed Ventilators, ‘very quickly’. Now they are saying it will only be 6000, in late April, and they want top dollar. Always a mess.”
GM is charging more than $1 billion, but I don't know whether that relates to 40,000 quantity or 6,000. With the larger number $12,500 per would seem reasonable. It was just a short time ago that T-rump was admonishing hospitals for why they needed so many ventilators. The ventilators have been ordered using the DPA, but the quantity still uncertain Go figure.

How could this happen in the United States where we supposedly have the best of everything, including healthcare?...
The blame all rests on the shoulders of the guy in the White House who last January was "touting his health care record as a key reason voters should grant him another term." His record then was trying to get rid of Obamacare, which he failed at, and it has gotten progressively worse as the U.S. now leads the world in coronavirus cases: 81,321 as of Thursday with 1,000 deaths. But it gets worse...
"A cadre of right-wing news sites pulled from the fringes in recent years through repeated mention by President Trump is now taking aim at Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious diseases expert, who has given interviews in which he has tempered praise for the president with doubts about his pronouncements."
Not only have we failed miserably at coronavirus testing, headed up originally by number two, Mike Pence, and now son-in-law screw-up Jared Kushner, but now the Oval Office lunatic wants to fire all the experts to just listen to those who will say what he wants to hear. And he is more concerned with a faltering U.S. economy that could hurt his November chances in the election than help the Americans he was elected to serve.
NY Gov. Cuomo needs ventilators, pleads with Trump to use Defense Production Act...
His running war with New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo has no doubt attributed to that state, and the city of New York, becoming the epicenter of the U.S. COVID-19 epicenter, where there are 74,000 cases. A dedicated New York city nurse, Kious Jordan Kelly, 48, assistant nursing manager at Mount Sinai Hospital, has died of the virus in New York's escalating crisis. Kelly also suffered from severe asthma The NY crisis was caused by...

"Trump has sent mixed messages about the scale of the danger and how to fight it, ensuring there was no coherent, unified response to a grave public health threat.
"A series of missteps and lost opportunities dogged the nation’s response."
In hindsight, T-rump's failed to take the pandemic seriously...
"even as it engulfed China, a deeply flawed effort to provide broad testing for the virus that left the country blind to the extent of the crisis, and a dire shortage of masks and protective gear to protect doctors and nurses on the front lines, as well as ventilators to keep the critically ill alive."
China took a slow start on attacking the disease, but then...
"China’s autocratic government acted with ferocious intensity after the belated start, eventually shutting down swaths of the country. Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan quickly began preparing for the worst."
We already have the autocracy in Donald Trump, but the idiot didn't have the brains to implement the necessary measures to prevent the predicament we are now in. That is the difference between the intelligence of China's president, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump. In this case, Jinping worked for the good of his people. Trump worked for the good of his reelection and approval rating. We may never recover from what this moron has done to the United States.

Because of Donald Trump's incompetence, this country has 80,000 recorded cases of COVID-19...
.The two incompetents behind it all
This can be attributed to early denials by the Oval Office lunatic, then delays in more ineptitude in testing. Here's the latest count...
"As of Thursday afternoon, China was reporting 81,782 cases and the United States had at least 80,837. There have been more than 510,000 cases reported worldwide."
As of today, Italy had 80,589 cases, in part due to a nationwide lockdown, which seems to have worked for this country. The best T-rump has come up with so far is encouraging distancing and not socializing. However, this idiot is reluctant to press for stay-at-home and is now talking of rescinding distancing and no socializing and returning to normal activities by Easter. All to improve an economy that he hopes will help his November election chances. But here's the way it is...
"Health officials are warning that numerous hospitals around the country may run out of beds within two weeks as cases continue rising.
"If more beds don't become available, 'then we don't have resources to save the lives that we need to save,' former Louisiana Secretary of Health Dr. Rebekah Gee said. 'That's why these stay-at-home orders are so important.'
"But "we have not seen the peak of the crisis yet," Gee said."

So, what happened to the Defense Production Act to speed up the availability of critical health equipment? Here is CNN's take after Trump was contradicted again, this time by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator...
Around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Trump tweeted, "The Defense Production Act is in full force, but haven't had to use it because no one has said NO! Millions of masks coming as back up to States."
Minutes later, FEMA administrator Pete Gaynor told CNN the administration will start wielding the powers in the Defense Production Act for 60,000 tests kits and "use the allocation portion of the DPA" starting today.
"Just a little while ago my team came in and we're actually going to use the DPA for first time today," Gaynor said.
She tweeted, “He’s lying. I was sent to the [COVID19] isolation wardroom in a major hospital ER from a separate urgent care facility after showing UNBEARABLY PAINFUL symptoms. The hospital couldn’t test me for [coronavirus] because of CDC (Pence task force) restrictions.”
"Griffin’s tweet came just hours after Trump took to Twitter to boast about the United States’ testing capacity." This is what Trump tweeted...
Trump’s tweet read, “Just reported that the United States has done far more ‘testing’ than any other nation, by far! In fact, over an eight-day span, the United States now does more testing than what South Korea (which has been a very successful tester) does over an eight-week span. Great job!”
In perhaps one of the worst, if not the worst crisis the United States has ever faced, the guy who is supposed to be running this country is bold-face lying about what he is supposedly doing to curb the situation. It is not only unconscionable, but appears to me to be bordering on treason, lying to the American public in a way that could be detrimental to their health in this dire emergency...READ MORE...

"Writing in The Bulwark this Wednesday, Tim Miller chronicled how President Trump 'downplayed the threat of and ignored warnings' of the burgeoning threat of coronavirus in the early days of the outbreak. More spite for Obama in the following headline: "Trump White House ignored Obama-era NSC ‘playbook’ for pandemic response: report"...
"The Trump White House has no excuses for its lack of pandemic preparedness. None. Every few days we learn about yet another warning from the past, another way some part of the government tried to prepare for a pandemic, only to have Team Trump ignore all the preparation and waste months denying that coronavirus was a danger to the United States, while the virus spread and our chances to contain it ebbed away."
Anti-vaxxers at it again, this time attacking coronavirus...
Jude McGee, dead at age 4, killed by anti-vaxxer mother
Anti-vaxxers are the scum of the earth, responsible for flu and measles deaths some time back, which were mostly children. There was no remorse when a mother let her 4-year-old young son die in Colorado in February of the flu because a Facebook group told her to medicate him with thyme and elderberry instead of the drug known to help the flu, Tamiflu. If that wasn't enough, after his death she was swamped with hate mail and attacked by anti-vaxxers.
"The rapid spread of coronavirus is beginning to look a lot like a pandemic, and besides its often deadly effects on human health, it’s also having a serious effect on the global economy, raising the prospect that everyday life could be disrupted all over the world. But anti-vaccine corners of the internet are worried about something else: that the government might develop—or even “enforce”—a coronavirus vaccine."
"The UK's health secretary Matt Hancock said anti-vaccination campaigners were 'morally reprehensible, deeply irresponsible' and had 'blood on their hands,'"
The understatement of the year when it comes to these muckrakers, but they cannot be ignored. Another way of looking at it...
"For most people, the news that a vaccine had been developed against the disease would come as a relief, but for anti-vaxxers it ties together two things. The first is, naturally, an overwhelming fear and distrust of vaccines; the second is a terrified certainty that some day the government will find a convenient excuse to enforce Orwellian degrees of control."
Strictly Orwellian but effective in this coronavirus emergency-MUST WATCH...
George Orwell would consider anti-vaxxers despicable, and there is nothing Orwellian about the government's enforcement of any vaccine that saves lives. It is pure common sense, which is completely absent in this group of baby-killers. This is how these idiots think...
The outlook is now "that while there’s no coronavirus vaccine yet, it’ll soon be impressed on an unwilling population, along with other vaccines." And I hope to be one of the first in line to get a vaccination.

Young people come up with the idea, let's have a "coronavirus party" to socialize...
Kentucky "coronavirus party" that worked
One of the biggest socializing events of the year happens when the 146th Kentucky Derby runs in September...if it isn't cancelled due to coronavirus. But it does have its competition in the area of socializing when a group of double-digit IQs from the state got together to socialize just to prove a point; a 'coronavirus party' of young adults. They did. One of them--there may be more--came up with the COVID-19 virus, with this comment from CNN...
"The partygoers intentionally got together 'thinking they were invincible" and purposely defying state guidance to practice social distancing."
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear chides coronavirus partygoers...
I did a recent piece on the dumbness of this age group, "Latest COVID-19 Crisis: These millennials are just stupid about coronavirus," which portrays these 18 to 29-year-old young people who make the me-group look like missionaries. And then earlier there was a guy on spring break who made the comment. "If I get corona, I get corona," who has since apologized, but you have to wonder how many of this Miami Beach gang will come up with the virus.
We talked to someone in this age group recently who is close to the family and responded to warnings that they should protect themselves, with the reply, "It's only a virus." That says it all, and it is damn tragic.
