Parkland students think Oliver North perfect for NRA

Charlton Heston
Oliver North's sleezy background with Iran-Contra qualifies him as the devious type to be a leader for the National Rifle Assn. He'll obviously get more training from NRA head Wayne LaPierre, the leader in deviousness. Apparently, activists splashed fake blood at the house of Chris Cox, the NRA's chief lobbyist and leading purveyor of the organization's enormous trove of propaganda. This prompted North to call it "civil terrorism" adding, the NRA was the target of a “cyberwar.” I won't even begin to count the number of gun violence deaths just in 2018, but it takes 18 pages to cover all of them. I don't know who's worse, North or Charlton Heston, but I think most of us agree, the NRA has to go!

Brainless Actor Vince Vaughn Wants to Arm America's Schools

I knew when Jennifer Aniston dumped this guy there was a good reason. He had an addled brain that needed a major tune up. He says he "supports guns in schools to prevent mass shootings..." He also believes in concealed and open carry as he put it "full stop." And then the kicker, "We have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government." Yeah, like he's been mishandled by the feds; God, that's getting old. He talks about "guys shooting up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there." These "guys" could care less if there are guns in the schools because most of them are on a suicide mission and end up dead anyway. I am all for actors coming out and voicing their opinions on current events but Vince Vaughn is beginning to sound like Charlton Heston in his famous speech about someone having to pry his gun from his cold dead hands. Heston's rhetoric sounded dumb then as Vince Vaughn's does today.

Gun control advocates take over NRA…Oust Wayne LaPierre

A PARODY

Dateline-May 6, 2013-Houston: It was just last week and the National Rifle Assn. (NRA) was holding its annual convention at the George R. Brown convention Center in the heart of downtown Houston.  The exhibit hall was huge, some 400,000 feet, equipped to handle 500 exhibitors.  Families of gun worshippers gathered to hear the omnipotent Wayne LaPierre reassure them that gun control advocates would not take away their precious guns.

Wackier than even Wayne LaPierre

LaPierre is known for coddling this gang of gun nuts to make sure they continue to send their money that will keep his maniacal crusade flourishing while more than adequately filling his pockets and those of his top henchmen.  It’s a no lose situation with these poor souls.  But their financial support is trivial compared to the real money that comes from the gun manufacturers where clearly LaPierre has placed his nose and support up entirely within their backside.

Back at the convention, children marvel at the weaponry, especially the selection of assault rifles, reminded that their parents had promised them one when they are old enough.  Moms look over an array of holsters for females to select the one that best fits their personality.  Dads search for the most masculine looking Glock that will help them confirm their manliness.  They are all here, ready to heap praise on the great one who has fulfilled their loosest gun dreams.

NRA kid who doesn't like
gun control advocates

But there is another group present that has a different purpose than the NRA’s fanatical gun rights.  They are the gun control advocates who came to this firearms fiasco to dump CEO Wayne LaPierre and shut down its absurd advocacy for guns for everyone to take anywhere they want.  These are reasonable people, some of which own guns, many who are NRA members, but realize they should only be meant for protection in the home.

These are law abiding citizens who aren’t afraid of background checks, even the registration of their weapons.  They are also a part of the budding majority that believes assault rifles were meant for killing and have no place in the typical American home.  They believe in the 2nd Amendment but also realize its limitations.  The Founding Fathers did not intend for it to open the door to an NRA style culture with zero restraint.

It was almost a year ago in 2012 that the call went out through gun control advocates to enlist those with this philosophy to join the NRA, while identifying members within the organization that were approving of sensible gun control.  They responded in droves with 3 million new applicants signing up and 750,000 NRA member sympathizers joining the group.  That meant out of the total membership now of 7,300,000, 3,750,000 were anti Wayne LaPierre.

Finally, there was a majority in the most powerful lobby in the country; but could they throw the bums at the top out?  With determination the gun controllers set about to infiltrate the meetings, espousing their views on sensible gun control.  They were met with even more supporters from the ranks coming over to their side, but were also confronted by the typical bubba gun nuts, along with their wives and kids, that called them everything from anarchist to communist.

Soon the fireworks began to go off in the upper echelons when LaPierre and his minions caught wind of the movement.  They had known all along that something was going on but reacted with the same arrogance that nothing could stop the great LaPierre and his wrecking ball.  But this time was different.  The American public, although leery of blanket gun control, was weary of the daily gun homicides that were going on across the U.S.  The time had come.

Momentum grew for the gun controllers when a confrontation ensued.  But then saner minds prevailed by warning the crowd that everything they were doing was being taped for the evening news.  At this point the gun controllers forced a vote, first to elect a new President of the NRA who was one of them.  Next, a vote was taken to dethrone Wayne LaPierre, which passed by a large plurality, and to form a committee to find a new Executive Vice President and CEO to replace him.

It was done and the gun controllers had done it.  When they went searching for LaPierre to officially strip him of his titles and position he was nowhere to be found.  One security guard said that he saw him and several other men exiting through a basement door that led to the parking lot where they expected to find their limousines.  They weren’t there.  The gun controllers had made sure of that.  LaPierre was later seen walking around the parking lot begging for a ride.

The 2013 NRA Annual Meeting closed early.

Oh, only if…

It’s time to reboot the NRA

The National Rifle association (NRA) has been around since 1871 and will no doubt be here for at least a few more years.  It started as a reasonable organization, founded for the purpose of teaching marksmanship and gun safety.  It has evolved into a gang of unreasonable lunatics demanding that anyone should be able to own a gun and take it anywhere they want to.  Led by the head wacko Wayne LaPierre, it has power most of us can’t comprehend.

Charlton Heston, one of the original NRA kooks

As a recent example, the NRA has joined up with the GOP in the drive for contempt charges against Attorney General Eric Holder re. Fast and Furious.  They are pressuring Democrats now to join Republicans in the fight to make Holder the first sitting cabinet member to receive such a charge.  Whatever the outcome to Fast and Furious, it is not about the issue but rather the fact that this group of fanatics can bring down such pressure on Congress.

The time has come to stop this nonsense.  I have been reporting on gun violence by documenting the monthly numbers of U.S. shootings, those killed, and those wounded since March.  There was a 37.5 percent increase in gun violence in April over March and another 30.4 percent in May.  June looks to be coming in with another increase and one wonders just how long this country will put up with this before taking some kind of action on gun control.

This has to start by eliminating the power of the NRA that is conducive to the rights of sane gun owners—yes, there are some of those out there—but restrictive of this radical philosophy of guns for everyone, everywhere.  It is time to reboot the NRA.  The term means restart, begin again, in order to correct errors that have occurred.  Precisely what this out of control bunch of extremists needs and the process of change must start soon or more will die from guns.

The excellent gun control blog, Common Gunsense, recently posted an article on the fact that guns are now responsible for raging fires in Utah and Colorado.  It is the result of target shooting, a right that the NRA demands for its members, your rights be damned if it starts a blaze that destroys homes and precious forests.  CG says the NRA doesn’t trust government, adding:

“The NRA wants the minority of folks who own guns and carry guns to determine public safety rather than the people who are actually charged with doing so for the good of our communities.”

Gun control today
Richard Aborn of the Washington Post made this statement, “The debate about guns in the United States has always been between David and Goliath. Last year, the gun lobby outspent advocates of gun control by 11 to 1, or $2.9 million vs. $260,000.”  The NRA is well known for spending 46 percent of donations on fundraising, only 54 percent on charitable efforts while most major 501(c) charities spend 75 percent on the latter.

Aborn continues, “…the United States leads its post-industrial peers with an average of eight times as many annual deaths as a result of gun violence.”  He cites a decrease in gun control support in the United States, comparing this at a level of 52 percent in 1994 with a recent November Gallup poll indicating it is currently only at 1 percent.  The apathy is likely to continue as long as millions of Americans are out of work and losing their homes.

With those figures in mind, the author charges all of us with three factors in taking back control of guns:

Number one, don’t believe it; the battle against violent crime has not been won.  “More Americans were killed by gun violence last year than all American troops who have been killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.”

Two, “Ninety percent of gun owners support reasoned measures to keep guns from criminals and the mentally unbalanced, bipartisan polls show.”  Gun control and gun rights groups must come to an understanding.

Three, the NRA has successfully worked to prevent government funding for scientific research on the effectiveness of gun control measures.  Aborn says we should look at other countries for the plunging number of gun deaths with reasonable gun control.  You can see an example in my recent post, Canada laws prove that gun control works.”

Numbers don’t lie and my monthly documentation of gun violence should be a wake up call for all of us, especially those out there I call the “Apathetics.”  You have to care and somehow make a contribution to efforts that put a reasonable control on who owns guns and just where they are allowed.  If not, many of you could be one of my future statistics.
